What to Expect from a Heating Tune Up

What's Involved in a Heating Tune Up?

Here are the most important steps taken by our professional HVAC technicians during a heating tune up:

Step 1: Cleaning the System

Dirty heating systems function at a lower energy efficiency because the dust and grime gets in the way of the moving parts. Depending on the type of heating system, when they are very dirty there is a risk of catching fire.

The takeaway? Clean systems are safe and operate more efficiently, saving you money on your monthly utility bills.

Step 2: Visual Inspection of the Heater

Our HVAC professionals will inspect every inch of your furnace, heat pump, or other type of heating system for cracks, general wear and tear, and other signals of growing problems.

Without a visual inspection, important parts and components of your system are at risk of failure.

Part replacement can be very expensive, but even worse, if the component is vital to the operation of the heater the entire system may need to be replaced.

Step 3: Testing Vital Components of the System

Beyond making sure everything is clean and looks correct, our HVAC technicians will test each part of your heater to ensure that they are functioning appropriately.

This includes testing pilot lights and igniters, calibrating thermostats and testing thermostat controls, and checking that air pressure and airflow are at the correct levels.

Step 4: Lubrication of Moving Parts

Moving parts of heating system require regular lubrication. If they dry out, they can cause serious, costly damage to the entire setup.

This lubrication process helps avoid the need for expensive replacement parts or very expensive replacements of the entire heating system.

If you’re not sure when the last time the moving parts (blowers, motors, etc.) were lubricated, we recommend scheduling a tune up right away.
